FAQs

  • It is collaborative and acknowledges that you are the expert on your body.

As the massage therapist, I bring my expertise in anatomy, the nervous system, methods of relaxation, and knowledge of how pain works. Ultimately the session is determined by what feels good to your body. Your feedback on what feels comfortable, what is uncomfortable, and what works for you is very important and always listened to. We are here to listen, to validate, and to facilitate relief.

  • Bodywork: Integrating therapies and techniques, such as breathwork, into the sessions to help gain body awareness and build self-care habits for long term relief.

Massage: the techniques used to soften the muscle tissue and ‘free the fascia’ - Myofascial Release, Deep Tissue, Swedish, Skin Rolling, Cupping, Compression, etc.

Fascia: Listen to “the Fuzz” Speech by Dr. Gill Hedley or “Fascia 101” by Tom Myers.

  • Before: the session will depend on your goal - flexibility or mobility? (To gain joint range or stabilize?) No deep tissue, unless your workout is an active recovery day.

After: this session would generally be for recovery after a workout. General flushing of the limbs and stretching.

  • Recognizing where the body is in space and being consciously connected during movement.

  • Rediscovering balance and poise through thinking during activity.

Our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and attitudes can affect how healthy our bodies are.

What we eat, how much we exercise, and our posture can impact our mental state. Welcome to the complex interrelationship between our minds and bodies!

  • To get the muscle groups working together / efficiently + to gain range of motion without obsessive stretching. The results will lead to less imbalances & alternative movements and ensure less to no pain.

How do we do this? We work on building off of foundations like breathing and how to use the tripod of the foot to move with more strength and mobility.

Expectations

  • Have an open mind. We work without drape/sheets to maximize session times.

Be patient with yourself. Connecting to the body is not easy an easy task and takes practice.

Communicate / give feedback; ask questions and keep the therapist updated before, during, and after sessions.

Have a willingness to participate in the sessions. Unless you’re looking for a relaxation session, you will be asked to move to feel the differences of the changes that occur.

Make time and set reminders to practice awareness / movement. What you put in is what you get out. When you remember and put things into practice it will only aid in building a new habit. We are only human, do what feels right for you.

Be intentional when moving throughout the day. After a couple sessions, you will start to notice differences; if the feelings of discomfort start up you will have the know-how to move better.

Again, we are only human, and these things will take time to literally feel.

  • Professional: Good hygiene, clean wardrobe, and punctual.

Welcoming Atmosphere: Dim lighting, calm music, and a heated table (optional). This atmosphere facilitates in giving the nervous system a break from the ‘hustle and bustle’ of life and allows for the body to recognize the changes that occur and assist in a quick recovery.

High Work Ethic: Our therapist works hard to help you get results. This includes annual continued education, research about your specific problem in between visits to ensure that you have all the information you need.

Great Bodywork: The integration of assessments, massage (i.e. sports massage, deep tissue massage, myofascial, etc.), cupping, general spinal alignment, breathwork, and movement are suggested for creating better habits and a pain free living experience!

Education of Body Awareness: Throughout the session we discuss, learn, and improve how you move throughout your daily life. Nothing is ‘good’ or ‘bad’, its what you do with this information that can make the difference.
